What is Manual Radiator Valves?
Manual radiator valves are angled taps on your radiator which are there merely to turn the radiator on and off. In a manual radiator valve system, the radiator control is down to the thermostat, located elsewhere and of the radiator body.
Benefits of Manual Radiator Valves
Easy to use
Manual radiator valves are easy-to-operate devices that can easily adjust the flow or close the pipeline directly by hand. Compared with other valves, the control method of manual radiator valves is simpler and clearer. At the same time, it is also safer because no electricity or other energy is required during operation, reducing the risk of electrical failure and leakage.
Low maintenance cost
Since manual radiator valves are mechanical devices that do not require power support, the cost of maintenance and servicing is also low. Its maintenance cycle is relatively long, and generally only regular lubrication and inspection are required, which can reduce operating costs. In addition, manual radiator valves can still be used normally during power outages and other emergencies, and the reliability is extremely high.
Strong adaptability
The structure of manual radiator valves is relatively simple and small in size, which can adapt to various flow and pressure environments. It can be used for a variety of media such as liquids, gases and steam, and is suitable for process control in different industries. In addition, manual radiator valves can usually be disassembled and replaced, making them adaptable to the needs of equipment replacement, repair and upgrading.
Long service life
The material and working mode of manual radiator valves make their service life relatively long. It is made of metal, which has high strength and corrosion resistance. With proper maintenance and repair, manual radiator valves can often be used for decades or even longer. This not only extends the service life of the equipment, but also reduces the cost of replacing the equipment.

Think of manual radiator valves like taps: turn the head anti-clockwise to turn it on and clockwise to turn it off. This adjusts the amount of hot water flowing through the radiator, which dictates how much heat is emitted into the room.
Different Types of Radiator Valve
Radiator valve fittings come in a variety of shapes; the shape that will best suit your radiator will depend on the pipes that are connected to your radiator.
Straight radiator valves
These types of radiator valves will be used in instances where the radiator is connected to the pipework without a bend or curve. These types of valves are optimal in use when the pipework runs from the floor upwards rather than the wall.
Corner radiator valves
These types of valves connect your radiator to your pipework at a 90-degree angle inwards masking the piping. These are a more aesthetic and tidy type of valve which will hide the pipework.
H-block radiator valves
H-shaped valves are connected at the bottom of the radiator rather than on either side and they are space-saving. H-block valves are easier to install than most other valves and they can be either manual or thermostatic.
Angled radiator valves
This type of angle mount radiator valve is the most common type. They connect the pipes to your radiator at a 90-degree angle, which is useful when the piping comes out of the wall.
Manual radiator valves are the flaps that protrude from the radiator’s exterior. These are angled and can be manually moved up or down depending on the heating requirements of that specific room.
Standard radiator valves such as the manual ones can control how much heat a room is exposed to, but these manual radiator valves will not be connected to a thermostat or control the room’s temperature. In other words, to get the desired temperature in a room, the radiator valves must be opened or turned on.

How to fit a radiator valve
If you have a you’ll need to seek the help of a registered professional before fitting radiator valves. To fit or change a radiator valve, you must follow several steps to ensure it’s successful:
Step 1: Switch off your heating system and shut off the water
Before you change the radiator valve, you'll need to switch off the heating system and water supply. This means that water can no longer enter the. Without doing this, the boiler could overheat.
Step 2: Locate the drain-off valve
Once complete, you'll need to drain your central heating system. Locate the drain-off valve. Connect a hose to the drain-off valve and position the other end of the hose to allow water to run into an outside drain.
You’ll then need to wait for the water to drain completely from your radiator. This can take up to 10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove the old radiator valve
To do this, undo the top nut on the existing valve and then spin the bottom nut. This will allow you to remove the valve entirely. Water can sometimes run out at this point, so have a towel ready.
Step 4: Fit the new radiator valve
Fitting the new radiator valve will vary depending on the fitting and type you're installing. Because of this, it's best practice to follow the manufacturer's guidelines on how to fit the radiator valve.
Step 5: Turn on the water mains
Once you've installed your new radiator valve and tightened everything up, it's time to turn the water mains back on. This will refill the system, so keep an eye out for leaks at the new joints. Once refilled, open the new valve to allow water to flow into the radiator.
Step 6: Bleed the radiator
Once you're happy there are no leaks, open the bleed valve to let out any trapped air. Trapped air can prevent the radiator from filling with water, so this is an important step to get the most out of your heating system.
Step 7: Turn on the boiler
Get your back up and running again. Once your heating system has had time to warm up, look at the radiator one last time to ensure there are no leaks and that the radiator is working as it should.
